Slick Marketing for Government Products and Services

Federal procurement isn’t sexy, but it is critical for providing necessary products and services to the government and saving taxpayer dollars. Akoya worked with the Department of Homeland Security’s Chief Procurement Officer to market the benefits of category management practices and contract vehicles. We took a commercial marketing approach with videos, webinar demos, and slick sheets that grabbed attention.

What We Did

Akoya brought a commercial marketing mindset to the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of Chief Procurement Officer’s procurement communications — leading with benefits, ease of use, and real value rather than compliance and obligation. That meant developing audience-centric strategies, compelling creative, and targeted distribution plans that raised the bar for what federal communications can look like. From animated videos and social media graphics to briefing decks and policy communications, every deliverable was built around one question: what will actually move this audience? We partnered with category managers and subject matter experts to find the right story, the right format, and the right channel.

Over four years, Akoya helped set a new standard for how DHS communicates — moving the department away from dry annual reports and content-heavy information sheets toward materials people actually want to engage with. We developed templates and style guides that kept communications consistent and on-brand across every deliverable. MarComm awards recognized the work, a reflection of what’s possible when you bring real marketing discipline to the public sector.
